St. Matthew’s Good News – 9/1/2023

If someone were to ask your closest friends or family members what you are most passionate about in your everyday life, how would they respond? What makes your eyes brighten with excitement when discussed or pop you out of bed when you have a day under your control? What (or who) do you talk too much about when the topic comes up? What gets your blood pumping?

This Sunday, we will be considering the instructions of the Apostle Paul in his letter to the Romans. He has a list of topics that he merely touches on, all related to the life of these Christians in their relational community together. One of the things he mentions is the kind of “zeal” we have for Christ and one another. He admonishes them to be “ardent in spirit” but what does that mean?

I welcome you this Sunday as we Worship our Lord and consider the wisdom of Holy Scripture, God’s inspired communication for us.

Blessings,

Father Tom

Prayer and Support for Holy Innocents Episcopal Church in Maui, Hawaii

Fr. Bruce DeGooyer and his wife Sam were long-time members of St. Matthews. They currently live on Maui where Bruce is the Vicar at Holy Innocents Episcopal Church that succumbed to the fire in Lahaina. Their house is fine, but many members of their Parish lost their homes. The Episcopal Diocese of Hawaii is coordinating immediate diocesan relief efforts with state, county and others to the Lahaina Fire disaster through the Diocese’s A CUP OF COLD WATER (ACCW) (https://www.episcopalhawaii.org/a-cup-of-cold-water.html). Mail checks to one of the following, and specify funds are for Holy Innocents Episcopal Church.

  • A Cup of Cold Water, 2140 Main St., Wailuku, HI 96793
  • The Episcopal Church in Hawaii, 229 Queen Emma Square, Honolulu, HI 96813-2304
