The St. Matthew’s Community Center has had an active program for over 40 years to support and help people recover from drug addiction. It has been a joint effort by St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church and the support groups located in the Bloomington-Normal area. The church provides the facility and the group the individual programs.
Currently there are twelve groups meeting in the facility. The Center hosts active meetings over thirty hours per week. Groups cover a broad category of addiction including alcohol, narcotics, cocaine, and programs for families with a member that has an addiction problem. Weekly, the programs are working with 75 to 100 people. A detailed list of the groups in the St. Matthew’s Center is shown below:
1 – Early Riser – NA | 5 – Afternoon – NA | 9 – Saturday – NA |
2 – Noon Times – AA | 6 – Alanon (2) | 10 – Tuesday – CA |

Why St. Matthew’s?
The St. Matthew’s Community Center building is ideal for this type of program. It is located within the city limits of Bloomington, has adequate parking, and is in a secluded residential area.
The problem is the building is over seventy years old. The groups and the church have continued to provide support, but have not had the resources to update the building’s long-term needs.
