St. Matthew’s Good News – 6/30/2023

Just to remind you, I will be leading and celebrating in our Rite I Mass on Sunday Morning (July 2nd). Bishop Burgess will only be present and celebrating in the Rite II Mass. In this same service, the Bishop will receive Carla M. and Megan K. into the Episcopal Church and membership at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church. The Bishop will also lay the hands of confirmation on Roger A. and Kathy L.

We hope you will plan to be there for this uplifting time of celebration through Word and Sacrament.

Also, I will be on vacation beginning on Monday, July 3rd through Tuesday, July 18th. Eric T. will be preaching for us on both Sunday, July 9th and July 16th. Emily A. and Linda T. will be leading Morning Prayer in both services on alternating Sundays. For the first week, I will be local enough to handle any emergency hospitalization or other. For the second, Fr. John Richmond will be alerted through our office or our Wardens for such a need.

See you all Sunday!

Upcoming Schedule

Worship

Adult Christian Ed Class Sunday, 9 AM.

LANDSCAPING AND UPGRADES
The Vestry is currently taking bids for a landscaping and upgrade project for the front of our church. Our hope is to make our entrance more welcoming and fresh for those who visit and attend. We are also looking to create opportunities for fellowship and interaction in these same spaces. Check out the drawings and materials on the back table in the Parish Hall for more information.

SERVING ON ALTAR GUILD
We are looking for volunteers to use their gifts of service on our Altar Guild. The Guild is responsible for the care, organization, and preparation of all things ceremonial for the celebration of Holy Communion (the Eucharist). We are thankful for the faithful service of our current members but need more help. If you are interested or know someone who is, please speak with Father Reeves.

SUMMER EPISCOPAL ACTIVITIES AVAILAIBLE
The Diocese of Springfield offers summer activities: Cursillo (for anyone age18+) happens July 13-16. For information about these Cursillo, go to the Diocesan website at episcopalspringfield.org

OUTREACH ACTIVITY
June, July. The Salvation Army has a long history of helping families in need. Right now the Army is stressing the overwhelming need in McLean County for food. We can help by donating items such as: spaghetti, spaghetti sauce, macaroni, tune fish, cereal, soup, canned corn, rice, coffee, tea, salad dressing, canned fruit, flour, sugar, and salt. Please bring your donations to church, and the Outreach Committee will convey them to our local Army headquarters. Thanks so much!
