This Sunday we celebrate the Feast of Pentecost, the coming of the Spirit as the presence of Christ among us and our advocate and guide. What does Jesus mean when he tells the disciples (who are grieved that he is leaving them), that it is to “their advantage” that he leaves? What does this mean for the way we live, do church, and seek to bring the love of Jesus to others?
Also, we have been talking a lot in our inquirers class about the idea that Anglicans are also “catholic”. What does that mean? The below link will take you to an article that I first published at my last parish in 2013. I have republished it to my current blog, and commend it to you:

READING AND STUDY GROUP
This summer, we will initiate a study using the book “Toxic Charity: How Churches and Charities Hurt Those They Help, and How to Reverse It.” This study aims to foster dialogue on the most effective ways to assist the homeless and those suffering for various reasons. There is a sign-up sheet now posted in the hallway outside of the office for those interested in participating in this class. After a few weeks, a scheduling meeting will be planned to discuss the specifics. I am considering beginning the class in May or June. It will likely consist of four seminar-style classes on a Saturday or a weeknight, depending on what suits everyone. Your feedback is welcomed.
